The UAW hired nationally acclaimed architect Rees Jones to design the course. he was selected to produce an "environmentally responsible" golf course to live symbiotically with its Northern Michigan environment. Black Lake Golf Club is one of the few courses that has been certified by the Michigan Turfgrass Environmental Stewardship Program issued by Michigan State University. The course was also certified by the Audubon International under its Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary System, a program designed to protect wildlife and preserve resources.
“The Little Course,” is a nine-hole pitch-and-putt with holes varying in length from 34 to 117 yards. An excellent choice for juniors, new golfers and families, the Little Course also provides experienced players an opportunity to work on their short game in a “real life” setting with bunkered and undulating greens.
